Binance-Linked Wallets Seek ETH Through Aave and Uniswap

What happened: Wallets associated with the suspected attacker began exchanging freezable USDT for ETH through decentralized exchanges after stablecoin issuers started freezing funds. According to reporting citing Arkham data, the attacker borrowed approximately 20,000 WETH, valued around $44 million, through Aave against stolen USDT collateral and routed assets through Uniswap. Researcher Spreek separately flagged USDT selling by wallets connected to the transfers.

Why it matters: The sequence suggests that issuer freezes influenced the subsequent movement of assets: converting stablecoins into ETH can reduce exposure to further issuer-level freezes. It also highlights the distinction between restricting access through a trading interface and stopping transactions at the underlying protocol level. Reports that some decentralized exchange frontends paused specific pairs therefore should not be interpreted as proof that every route for moving the assets had closed.
